We here at The Terminal Me have an Instagram account @oldbroadswalking because our philosophy is that a big part of having a Graceful Exit from this life is living this life with as much joy and purpose as we can cram into it. We want as few regrets and as many amazing memories as possible when we get to our inevitable end. My cousin and I are both what you might call “up in years” but that doesn’t stop us from getting out, being active, and appreciating all the beauty and wonder we find on the way. If you check out our Instagram page you’ll find lots of pictures and a few videos from our adventures.
We have even started doing 5k marathons at our advanced ages, although we have been the last to finish every time. We generally walk around 3 miles several mornings before we hit the Y for our Silver Sneakers classes so doing a 5k is not a big deal. The only thing is, we don’t do it fast. We’re both into photgraphy and people and nature and stuff so we aren’t ever really concerned about time with our walks other than not being late for class at the Y. So when we walk, we stop to take pictures of cool stuff, talk to folks, pet doggos, and look for dolphins in the river.
We’re at the beach for vacation this week so we’re out there every morning at sunrise, getting those steps in but we’re taking pictures, finding cool stuff in the sand, and letting the waves chase us at the water’s edge. It occurred to me this morning that while we’re walking long enough to call it a marathon, it doesn’t involve the stress or sweat of one and we are focused on being fully in the moment and not missing the joy and beauty around us because we’re not focused on the clock. I decided we needed a word for what we do and the word is Meanderthoning. (verb, *MEE-AN-DER-THON-ING)
So, being the trendsetters that we are, OldBroadsWalking and The Terminal Me are officially kicking off our campaign to promote Meanderthoning in an effort to make the world a better place. Stress less, pay attention to the world around you, and spend more time appreciating the beauty of nature and people and all that is good in the world. Fight back against the negativity and ugliness the world wants to heap on your head by shifting your focus for a while every day.
There’s no time to meander, you say? I have to fit my workout into a tight schedule, you say? Balderdash, we say! We bet you can squeeze enough out of your TikTock, Facebook, YouTube, and TV watching time to feed your body and your soul. We just happen to think that some regular Meanderthoning will make your life and the world a better place. Give it a shot, what could it hurt? Get out and meander and share what you see with us, we can’t wait to see what you find!
